Eye-Fi Center is legacy software used to manage older Eye-Fi X2 and earlier wireless SD cards. Because Eye-Fi shut down its official cloud servers, the original software is no longer officially supported. However, you can still install it from internal card storage or archive sites to utilize local desktop transfers.
Here is how to locate, install, and configure the desktop software on Windows and Mac. 1. Download and Locate the Software
You do not typically need an active internet download to get the installer. The required installation files are embedded directly on the SD card’s memory partition.
Locate via SD Card: Insert your Eye-Fi card into the included USB card reader and plug it into your computer. Open the drive volume and navigate to the START HERE folder.
Legacy Archive Downloads: If your card was formatted and the software was erased, the official download page is defunct. You must source the installers from third-party tech archives or look into the Eye-Fi X2 Utility (X2U), which was released by DPReview as a standalone local-transfer patch for Mac. 2. Installation Steps For Windows:
Open the Card Files: Connect your card reader. Go to My Computer (or This PC) and double-click the Eye-Fi drive.
Run Setup: Open START HERE, click the Windows folder, and double-click Setup.exe.
Complete the Wizard: Follow the setup wizard prompts. Allow the system to configure local firewall exceptions so the software can communicate with the card over your local network.
Open Finder: Insert the card into your reader. Open the newly mounted Eye-Fi drive window in the Mac Finder.
Launch Installer: Go to START HERE, click Mac OS X, and open the Eye-Fi installer package.
Uninstall Old Versions First: If you are transitioning to the alternative Eye-Fi X2 Utility, completely uninstall the original Eye-Fi Center application first to avoid software conflicts. 3. Setting Up Local Transfers
Once installed, the Eye-Fi Center application will automatically launch. It can also be managed via the Windows taskbar tray or the Mac menu bar.
Because cloud integration is unavailable, you must configure the card to bypass online verification and save directly to your local computer desktop. Getting to know my Eye-Fi card in preparation for AU 2010
